Short answer: Yemaya's Lounge is an ABCA-licensed medical cannabis retailer at 3919 Georgia Avenue NW in Petworth, Ward 4. Its license is ABCA-127400. It's Active and on ABCA's operational list, with all four retail endorsements: Delivery, Education Tasting, Safe-Use and Summer Garden. Ward 4 has 8 operational licensed retailers, and Yemaya's is the only one with Safe-Use. It's also the northernmost of the ten stores on the full list of ABCA Safe-Use retailers. The next-closest, in Adams Morgan, is about 1.5 miles away in a straight line.

What this means for you: if you're a registered patient in upper Northwest, Yemaya's is the only licensed on-site consumption option without a trip downtown.

The full endorsement stack

Only four DC retailers carry all four endorsements: Yemaya's, Firetuned in Dupont Circle, Higher Ground in Ivy City and New Leaf Smoke Shop on H Street NE. The one that sets them apart is Summer Garden, ABCA's endorsement for a private outdoor area tied to Safe-Use rules (ABCA). It isn't a public patio or the sidewalk.

For the rules, see Safe-Use and Summer Garden endorsements explained. For the license structure, see how endorsements stack on a DC retail license. In short, Safe-Use permits consumption in a designated area of a licensed medical retailer, by registered patients and caregivers, using product bought there (D.C. Code § 7-1671.06c).

What makes it different: programming first

Yemaya's Lounge describes itself on its website as "a Black woman-owned wellness hub" and "a licensed medical cannabis retailer and wellness lounge." The site arranges its calendar into what it calls Five Pillars:

  • Cooking classes and beverage tastings
  • Yoga, meditation and fitness sessions
  • Courses on safe use, cultivation and entrepreneurship
  • Community forums and volunteer projects
  • Live music, comedy nights and film screenings

That's about as far from a grab-and-go counter as DC retail gets, and the Education Tasting endorsement is what allows the tasting side of it. The site also runs an "Education Hub" for newer patients. Its FAQ says staff can help with the patient application in store. You can also do it yourself online through DC's self-certification process.

Programming changes often, so check the store's own events page for what's actually scheduled.

Menu overview (no prices)

Yemaya's sells through its storefront and a separate online shop, and offers licensed delivery under its ABCA Delivery endorsement. Like every DC medical retailer, it can only sell product from ABCA-licensed DC producers. We don't republish product lists, potency or prices.

The neighborhood

The store is on the Georgia Avenue corridor in Petworth, a short walk north of the Georgia Ave–Petworth Metro station (Green/Yellow lines). Ward 4's eight licensed retailers are spread from Petworth up to Takoma and Shepherd Park, and none of the others has an on-site consumption endorsement. To compare them, see licensed dispensaries in DC or the licensed-store map.

Outside the lounge and garden, DC's public-consumption ban applies (D.C. Code § 48-911.01).
