Short answer: Don Fuego is an ABCA-licensed medical cannabis retailer at 1126 9th Street NW in Mount Vernon Square, Ward 2. Its license is ABCA-126790. It's Active and on ABCA's operational list, with Delivery and Safe-Use endorsements. It was issued on Dec. 24, 2024, which makes it the second-oldest license among DC's ten Safe-Use retailers. Only New Leaf Smoke Shop's, issued two weeks earlier, is older.
In a market where most Safe-Use licenses are less than 18 months old, that head start counts. Don Fuego had time to work out how a licensed consumption room runs day to day, and its posted lounge rules show the result.

The history in the license record
ABCA's register lists Don Fuego's applicant type as both social equity and "unlicensed operator." The second label refers to the pathway the Medical Cannabis Amendment Act of 2022 created so businesses that had operated before licensing could apply to join the regulated medical market. That law is part of how DC moved from gifting shops to licensed retail.
The pathway is now a big share of the legal market. 30 of DC's 66 operational retailers came through it in our count of ABCA's register, as did 4 of the 10 Safe-Use holders. Don Fuego is one of the earliest of those to add an on-site consumption endorsement.
How the lounge works
Don Fuego's website handles its consumption lounge as a booked appointment in timed sessions, not a walk-in room. Its posted house rules are among the most specific we've seen from a DC retailer:
- Posted capacity of 10 people
- No outside cannabis, no outside food
- No alcohol or nicotine
- No torches. Staff assist with the store's glassware
Those rules line up with what the Safe-Use endorsement allows: consumption in a designated area inside a licensed medical retailer, by registered patients and caregivers, using product bought at that retailer (ABCA; D.C. Code § 7-1671.06c). Session length, availability and rules are the store's to set and can change. Confirm with Don Fuego before you plan a visit around the lounge. We don't list session pricing.
What this means for you: a 10-person room booked by time slot is a very different experience from a bar-style lounge. If you're coming from a convention or an event, don't expect to walk in. Book first.
Menu overview (no prices)
Don Fuego's online menu covers ten categories: flower, pre-rolls, infused pre-rolls, vapes, edibles, concentrates, tinctures, topicals, capsules and accessories. Its brand pages include several of DC's licensed manufacturers and cultivators, among them Alternative Solutions, District Cannabis, DC Xtracts, Easyday and Molecular Farms. It also offers licensed delivery under its ABCA Delivery endorsement. We don't republish potency figures, specials or prices.
The neighborhood
The store is on 9th Street NW in Mount Vernon Square, steps from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and a short walk from the Mt Vernon Sq/7th St–Convention Center Metro station. That puts it in front of a lot of out-of-town foot traffic. Ward 2 has the most licensed retailers of any ward, 18, and 3 of them carry Safe-Use. Visitors should read how visitors can buy legally in DC first. Compare other nearby options on our licensed dispensaries page or dispensary map.
Outside the lounge, DC's public-consumption ban applies, including on the sidewalks around the Convention Center (D.C. Code § 48-911.01).
