Short answer: Of the 66 licensed medical cannabis retailers on ABCA's operational list, only 3 are in Wards 7 and 8: CREEP Cannabis Co. in Ward 7, and Anacostia Organics and Sticky Meds in Ward 8. That's according to ABCA's records as of Oct. 13, 2026. Ward 2 alone has 18. Two more stores in those wards hold Active licenses but aren't on ABCA's operational list yet. Before you go anywhere, check the store's DC license.
The ward-by-ward picture
ABCA's license register shows Active retail licenses by ward: Ward 2 has 20, Ward 1 17, Ward 6 13, Ward 4 11, Ward 3 6, Ward 5 5, Ward 8 3 and Ward 7 2 (ABCA retailer finder). A license isn't the same as an open store, though. On ABCA's operational list, Wards 7 and 8 together account for 3 of 66 retailers, about 4.5% (3 ÷ 66).
| Ward | Store | ABCA license | On ABCA operational list? |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7 | CREEP Cannabis Co., 2924 Minnesota Ave SE | ABCA-128924 | Yes |
| 7 | The Good Joint, 4723 Sheriff Rd NE | ABCA-129403 | Not yet |
| 8 | Anacostia Organics, 2022 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave SE | ABCA-117379 | Yes |
| 8 | Sticky Meds, 1104 8th St SE | ABCA-126824 | Yes |
| 8 | Therapy, 2923 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave SE | ABCA-128751 | Not yet |
Listed by ward and address, not ranked. "Not yet" means an Active license that isn't on ABCA's operational list as of Oct. 13.
What stands out
- Ward 8 has the only Safe-Use endorsement in either ward. Sticky Meds, on 8th Street SE near the Navy Yard end of the ward, is one of DC's licensed Safe-Use lounges.
- Ward 7 grows cannabis but has one operational store. ABCA's non-retail register shows Phyto Management holding both a cultivation center and a manufacturer license in Ward 7, part of DC's licensed producers.
- The pipeline matters. If The Good Joint and Therapy join the operational list, operational storefronts in Wards 7 and 8 would go from 3 to 5. We'll update this page when ABCA's list changes.
What it means for patients
If you live in Ward 7 or 8, your licensed options are a short list. Licensed delivery from ABCA-endorsed retailers fills part of the gap, and our dispensary map shows every operational store. Avoid unlicensed shops: ABCA and MPD had padlocked 113 illegal cannabis businesses since the 2024 closure law took effect, ABCA said in June. For citywide context, see our August market report.
