Short answer: In DC, a legal cannabis lounge is not a bar, a private social venue, or a pop-up. It is a designated consumption area inside an ABCA-licensed medical retailer that holds an Active Safe-Use Treatment Facility endorsement. As of our Oct 6, 2026 check of the ABCA operational register, ten retail storefronts meet that bar. Below is the list with neighborhood and license number — not a ranking — plus how to verify each one yourself and what still stays illegal outside those rooms.
If you want the law in depth first, start with our LIVE explainers: Where can you smoke weed in DC? and DC cannabis lounges: ABCA’s Safe-Use endorsement. This guide is the practical follow-on: who has the endorsement attached to legal retail, and how to confirm that information without guessing.
Registered patients and caregivers who need a card or temporary registration before using a Safe-Use area can begin at medical certification.
What “Safe-Use” means in plain words
ABCA’s Safe-Use Treatment Facility endorsement lets a licensed retailer create an on-site room where qualifying patients and their caregivers may consume medical cannabis bought at that same retailer (ABCA Safe-Use page; DC Code § 7-1671.06c).
In everyday terms:
- It is attached to a licensed medical store, not a freestanding social venue — Safe-Use is an endorsement on a retailer license, not a separate license type (DC cannabis license types explained).
- You still need to be a registered patient or caregiver to enter the consumption area.
- Alcohol and tobacco are out; house rules and purchase limits still apply.
- Leaving the lounge does not magically legalize smoking on the sidewalk — DC’s public-space ban still applies (DC Code § 48-911.01).
We are not re-litigating the endorsement statute here. For ventilation, isolation, Summer Garden, and Education Tasting rules, use the Safe-Use endorsement explainer.
The 10 Active Safe-Use lounges attached to legal retail
How we built this list: every store below shows as Active on ABCA's operational list and holds an Active Safe-Use endorsement, checked Oct 6, 2026 (ET). This is a completeness list, not a “best of” ranking. Hours, menus, and room availability change; verify on the ABCA list and confirm hours and policies with the retailer before relying on any name below.

*Endorsements as recorded on the master pull. “Summer Garden” means a private outdoor retail space ABCA ties to Safe-Use — not a park or public patio (ABCA Summer Garden).
†We link a retailer’s own website only where we could confirm it belongs to the licensed business (checked Oct 7, 2026); “—” means not yet confirmed.
Addresses (for orientation only): Bluntsluts — 2451 18th Street NW; Don Fuego — 1126 9th Street NW; Firetuned — 1341 Connecticut Avenue NW; Yana — 2026 P Street NW; Yemaya’s — 3919 Georgia Avenue NW; Higher Ground — 1135 Okie Street NE; Lucid X Dreams — 1334 North Capitol Street NW; New Leaf Smoke Shop — 416 H Street NE; Produce — 433 Massachusetts Avenue NW; Sticky Meds — 1104 8th Street SE.
Find them on our dispensary directory or map, filter or search by name, and treat the directory as a starting point — ABCA remains authoritative. For a closer look at one license package, see our Firetuned store spotlight in Dupont Circle.
What we deliberately left off
- Love 420 (ABCA-129942): Active license with Safe-Use on the register pull, but not on ABCA’s operational list as of our October 6, 2026 review. Pipeline rule: Safe-Use guides name only Active + operational retail. Re-check before publish; do not promote until operational.
- “New Leaf” at 317 Pennsylvania Avenue SE (ABCA-134694): Separate Active retailer with Delivery only — no Safe-Use on the master row. Do not confuse with New Leaf Smoke Shop (ABCA-126727).
- Unlicensed private venues, gifting-era storefronts, hotel lobbies, and Maryland lounges. DC only.
How to verify a lounge on ABCA (don’t take our word for it)
KOL rule: if we name a license, you should be able to check it the same way we do.
- Start with our walkthrough: How to check if a DC dispensary is licensed.
- Confirm the business appears as an Active medical cannabis retailer on ABCA’s public materials / register tools ABCA publishes for licensees.
- Confirm the Safe-Use Treatment Facility endorsement is present for that licensee — not just Delivery or Education Tasting alone (ABCA Safe-Use).
- Confirm consumption-area hours and house policies with the retailer. Retail hours and lounge hours are not always identical; ABCA sets retailer hours with Board approval (ABCA retailer license).
- Bring a government-issued photo ID and be prepared to show patient or caregiver status. Safe-Use areas are not open to the general public (§ 7-1671.06c(d)(2)).
If a social post or flyer markets an unlicensed “DC cannabis club” or “420-friendly” hangout without an ABCA retailer license and Safe-Use endorsement, treat it as not a legal medical lounge under the rules above.
What you still can’t do
Even with ten licensed rooms on the map, the citywide rules outside those rooms do not loosen (full detail in our guide to DC cannabis laws under Initiative 71):
- Public space — streets, sidewalks, alleys, parks, parking areas, vehicles on public ways, and any place the public is invited (including unlicensed private venues) remain off-limits for consumption (§ 48-911.01; MPD).
- Federal land — the National Mall and other federal parkland stay under federal rules; DC’s local allowances do not protect you there (MPD; see our where you can smoke guide).
- BYO into a lounge — product used in the Safe-Use area must be purchased at that retailer, unless the ABC Board allows otherwise by rule (§ 7-1671.06c(d)(3)).
- Unregistered friends — only qualifying patients and caregivers may enter the Safe-Use area.
That is the KOL takeaway: DC did not legalize “smoke anywhere.” It authorized a narrow, licensed, patient-only on-site option — and the ten names above are the operational set we can document today.
How to verify and confirm before you go
- Confirm registration status if you are not already a DC patient or covered visitor — start here; ABCA’s patient pages cover reciprocity and temporary registration (ABCA patients; reciprocity).
- Check the ABCA list against the table above (or our licensed dispensary directory) for the neighborhood you need — Adams Morgan, Dupont, Petworth, Ivy City, H Street, Navy Yard, and so on.
- Confirm Safe-Use + hours + policies with the retailer and, if anything looks off, re-check ABCA. New to DC stores? Our guide to your first DC dispensary visit covers ID and checkout.
- On-site purchase rules for Safe-Use use apply at that retailer; unused, properly packaged product taken home is subject to ABCA’s take-home rules — further use stays on private property where the owner allows it.
Browse the full licensed market on our DC dispensary directory or the dispensary map. When we publish store spotlights (Firetuned, Bluntsluts, Don Fuego, Yemaya’s, and others on the calendar), they will link back here and to the LIVE Safe-Use explainer — not replace them.
FAQ
Is this every cannabis lounge in DC?
It is every Active, ABCA-operational medical retailer with a Safe-Use endorsement on our Oct 6, 2026 master pull. The set can grow or shrink when ABCA updates endorsements or operational status. We will revise this page when the master does — we will not invent names to fill a table.
Can tourists use these lounges?
Only if they meet ABCA’s patient/caregiver rules (including any temporary registration or reciprocity path ABCA publishes). A Safe-Use area is not a walk-in social venue for the general public. See /visitors and the Safe-Use explainer.
Why don’t you rank them?
Because “best lounge” is a marketing claim we will not make. License status, neighborhood, and endorsements are facts. Atmosphere and service are subjective — and claim-verified store profiles belong in separate spotlights once Stores clears Q27 where needed.
Where can I smoke if I am not going to a lounge?
Private property where the owner allows it, subject to DC and federal limits. Details: Where can you smoke weed in DC?.
